A review of the current problem of the clinical importance of heterozygous mutations of the HFE C282Y and H63D gene in chronic hepatitis C. An important question for practice is to determine whether mutations affect the natural course of chronic hepatitis C, whether they accelerate liver fibrosis or contribute to cirrhosis.
Papers that have shown a worsening of hepatitis C are presented and are confronted with the results of authors who have not found a hypothesis of possible progression of hepatitis. Investigation of iron metabolism indicators and HFE gene mutations is indicated in chronic liver disease as the effect of mutations is not definitively resolved
