Currently, approximately 80% of newborns of extremely low birth weight survive in the Czech Republic. However, low mortality is only a prerequisite for further positive development of a highly vulnerable population.
Severe perinatal and neonatal complications in neonatal ELBWs are associated with severe reversible and / or irreversible life-long disabilities: cerebral palsy, neurosensory impairment, severe visual disturbances, blindness, deafness, psychomotor retardation, general growth disturbances and head circumferential growth disorders syndrome and general failure to thrive. Current results of long-term follow-up in the Czech Republic indicate the need to: 1. reduce the incidence of serious perinatal and neonatal complications;
