Abstract
This is an up-to-date review of literature concerning prostate cancer incidence, diagnostic and treatment in a growing population of HIV postitive patients. Introduction of highly active antiretroviral therapy in the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection impacted HIV positive patients' life expectancy.
As a result, besides other issues, malignancies became a common health problem of theirs. Some cancers are found more often in HIV positive patients than in the general population.
Publications dealing with cancer incidence among HIV positive persons have reported lower incidence rates for prostate cancer than in HIV negative individuals. However, not many authors have addressed the topic so far.
It seems there is no need to modify current screening, diagnostic, therapeutic and follow-up procedures in men with prostate cancer who are HIV positive.
