Abstract

Efficacy of cognitive remediation in schizophrenia cognitive deficit has been demonstrated at both psychometric and physiological level. Cognitive remediation with computer-aided specialized programs has showed consistently significant positive results, particularly in specific cognitive domains of schizophrenia patients.

Our study is a part of a CNS project aimed to create a register of neuropsychiatric patients with confirmed cognitive deficit, to follow them prospectively and simultaneously to investigate non-pharmacological interventions in cognitive remediation and prevention of their deterioration. We studied and compared short-term results, a clinical change after a cognitive remediation in laboratory (computer-aided cognitive training), and clinical settings (training of cognitive functions as a part of a complex psychiatric rehabilitation) in schizophrenia patients.

Our results confirmed a positive short-term partial effect of laboratory intervention on cognition. Moreover, the laboratory intervention demonstrated effect of generalization in a single cognitive domain.

Complex program showed to be more effective in generalized deficits
