Late-onset effects of treatment Hodgkin lymphoma

Publication at Third Faculty of Medicine |
2013

Abstract

Progress in the treatment of Hodgkin lymphoma is one of the huge successes of modern oncology. According to the evaluations of the stage of the disease and the presence of risk factors, up to 85-90% of patients achieve long-term remission, with life expectancy of 40 years and more.

A new problem to deal with at the moment are the late-onset adverse effects caused by Hodgkin lymphoma therapy: cardiotoxicity, secondary neoplasms, lung toxicity, fertility impairment (azoospermia, amenorrhoea), disorders of thyroid gland function, immunosupression with infectious complications, psychosocial problems. Other complications can occur: damage to the soft tissue (muscles, gastrointestinal organs), bones and neurological disorders.
