The most important contribution to the toxicity of the ambient air in Teplice (Northern Bohemia)comes form the neutral organic fraction extracted from particulate matter (EOM). The aromatic subfraction of EOM contains polycyclic aromatic hy&drocarbons (PAHs).
Risk assessmant of the presence of the air-borne carcinogenic PAHs in Teplice came to the conclusion that the longlasting exposition of the inhabitants may contribute to the high-level mortality documented in the mine districts of Northern Bohemia compared to the whole-state average.
