Sleep rhythm, prediction of the course of illness, and therapy in a patient with bipolar affective disorders

Abstract

Long-term changes of sleep rhythm were analysed in rapid cycling bipolar disorder. The sleep circadian period became shorter before the switch to depression and longer before the switch to mania.

A possible role of reduced synchronicity preceding mood changes is discussed
