After "the Velvet revolution" the elites emerged as an object of the public and the professional discussion. The personal and the role of the elites in new democratic state were discussed.
The heirs of the economical and political elites of the pre-war (1918 -1939) republic failed. The aristocracy appeared to be the only representative of the "old"(pre-war) elites.
The intellectual elite played an important role in the early 1990s but from 1997 it disappeared from the discussion. The heirs of the political and economical elites of the socialist era were successful.
At present the aristocracy, political elite and economical elite were the only objects of the continuing discussion. The debate was followed at newspapers Mladá Fronta Dnes, Právo, Hospodářské noviny and weeklies Reportér and Týden.
