Abstract

Perhydro-3,6,9,12-tetraazacyclopenteno[1,3-f,g] is readily mono- and dialkylated on nitrogen with alkyl bromides and iodides giving mono- and bis-quarternary ammonium salts. The title compound is a unified starting material for the preparation of cyclene based chelators.
