Abstract
The idea of widespread cosmopolitanism of zooplankton species is no longer accepted as valid. Many alleged variable cladoceran species have been shown to be species complexes.
The recent development of molecular tools, including allozyme and DNA analysis, helps us to better recognise the species boundaries. We present the results of case studies where DNA sequencing was used along with other approaches to analyse sibling species complexes.
