The essay is dealing with the analysis of two different forms of cognition, the difference between explaining (Erklaeren) of abstract principles in the exact sciences and understanding (Verstehen) of social, historical and psychical phenomena in the human sciences. The author analyzes the development of hermeneutics from Dilthey to Heidegger and Gadamer and demonstrates its importance in the pedagogy and psychotherapy practices and in the processes of the upbringing and teaching cognition.
The author also notes the connection between the experience and cognition and the possibilities of their use in the development of the cognitive processes, not only according to the pupils and students but also according to the teachers. The understanding of the upbringing and educational activity is represented primarily as a self-understanding taking place in the reflection of the nature of own activity of a teacher and educator.
