The present study is an analysis of subjective opinions of mothers on their children with cerebral palsy. The studied group consisted of 30 mothers of children with cerebral palsy, 30 mothers of children with cerebral palsy and mental handicap and 50 mothers of healthy children.
For the research the method of semi-structured interview was used. The results of the qualitative analysis proved that mothers are able to recognize in their disabled children even a lot of good and strong points, in particular those, which make mutual understanding and communication easier.
They also appreciate their children’s sensitiveness and good-heartedness. Mothers saw negative qualities and manifestations of two kinds: generally refused and unpleasant qualities and manifestations, but also those that are somehow connected with basic handicaps.
