Abstract
UN General Assembly Special session was held in New York on June 23-27, 1997. It was devoted to the assessment of the 5 years after the UNCED in Rio de Janeiro.
It concluded that the global trends regarding vital planetary life-supporting systems are negative but the idea of sustainable development is a sound one and must be endorsed.
