Life style, health and achievements of students of the Faculty of Medicine

Publication at Third Faculty of Medicine |
1997

Abstract

The study is aimed at health of students, at the analysis of their life-style at the university, and at their achievements. It deals with changes that took place from high school to the demands of the first grade and follows up new data in the second and third grades.

The results show that health of university students is continuously worsening during the study. Students suffer more from headaches, bad mood, digestive problems.

The manifestations of worsening health in the first grade (that is demanding and in which the rate of adaptability is reflected at the same time) are enforced by the fact that health of students, especially the subjectively felt one, deteriorates also in the following grades. Further data are oriented at the original lifestyle.

When evaluating the life-style of the original family it can be stated that the majority of students comes from complete families; they understood their family more as a unit where each member had his/her own occupation. They used to spend less time together.

Those students who mention problems in their original family, give in higher rate health problems at the university. The school achievements were related to several factors of life habits.

The results are not significant but the differences between particular groups show that both study- and life-style affect the achievements. Factors which seem to be dangerous in the third grade were accumulating and the groups that are not great by the number of students but by the number of dangerous factors will become the object of continuous preventative care.
