Protectors against doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity: Flavonoids

Publication at Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové |
2007

Abstract

Cardiotoxicity is a serious side effect ot the anthracycline anticancer chemotherapy. We have searched for the cardioprotective agents that combine iron-chelating and antioxidant properties.

After an extensive /in vitro/ screening it has been found that flavonoids and especially 7-monohydroxyethylrutoside could serve this purpose. 7-monohydroxyethylrutoside also efficiently prevented doxorubicin cardiotoxicity in mice and was found to be safe to be investigated in humans in a study with healthy volunteers.
