Abstract
Diarrhea is one of the most frequent infectious diseases in children. It is on the second place after respiratory diseases.
In the year 2003 53 486 diarrheal diseases were reported in the Czech Republic. The great part of them was in children especially in the age group between 1-4 years.
The most common bacterial pathogens were almonellas and campylobacters. Viruses (rotaviruses, adenoviruses, caliciviruses and astroviruses) are the most frequent cause of diarrhea in children.
Clinical picture, diagnostics and treatment of diarrhea in children are described in the article. dehydration is the most important step in treatment of dirrhea, antibiotics are not usually necessary to use.
