Immunodeficiency

Publication at Second Faculty of Medicine |
2007

Abstract

Immunodeficiency is a condition characterized mainly by an increased susceptibility to infections. The book focuses on both aspects of immunodeficiencies (primary and secondary immune disorders) and summarizes the latest findings from the literature and the author's own experience in the field of diagnosis and treatment of these conditions.

The second edition includes significant news that have appeared since the first edition. They mainly concern the issue of primary immunodeficiencies.

From a clinical point of view, as in the case of most primary immunodeficiencies, these are rare cases with which even a specialist immunologist encounters only rarely during life. In order to avoid a disproportion between the area of primary immunodeficiencies - more marginal from a clinical point of view - and secondary immunodeficiencies (a very large group of patients), the news is concentrated in an extensive table.

There have been no fundamental or revolutionary changes in the field of secondary immunodeficiencies - the chapters are supplemented by newer quotations on this issue and some minor innovations.
