Is the stress test still useful?

Abstract

Without prepartal cardiotocography, we can hardly imagine prenatal care today. It has slowly become the gold standard.

We send pregnant women knon-stress tests automatically, because it is an available examination method that is not invasive and does not burden the pregnant woman too much. Unfortunately, the easy availability of the method leads to the fact that we overuse antepartum cardiotocography in prenatal care without thinking too much about what exactly we expect from this examination in individual cases.

When evaluating the curves, we often forget that this is a very sensitive method, which has only limited specificity, we forget that the quality of the recording can be affected by a number of influences that have nothing to do with the current state of the fetus.
