The pelvic end position at the time of delivery complicates approximately 3% of pregnancies, as reported in the article. In the Czech Republic, these 3% currently represent more than 3,000 births a year, which is no longer a negligible number.
Large multicenter international and national studies have shown that vaginal pelvic delivery poses a higher risk to the fetus in terms of morbidity and mortality, especially in primiparous animals. Gone are the days when this position was considered physiological and births were primarily the vaginal route.
In developed countries worldwide, the prevailing opinion among the professional public is that the risk of complications for the fetus is disproportionately high, and that it is therefore better to terminate such a pregnancy by elective caesarean section.
