Introduction: Czech field hospital acting in Kabul is situated in a place with high incidence of parasitic diseases. The aim of this article is to inform readers about the possibilities of diagnostics and treatment of patients with hydatic liver cystic disease.
Case: A 25-year-old woman, an Afghan citizen, was admitted complaining of one-year lasting loss of appetite, weight and upper abdominal pain. Preoperative examinations proved Echinococcus cyst in the left liver lobe and solid formation in the right liver lobe.
During the operation we found 2 cysts of diffeent age with an average diameter of 5 cm localized in mentioned sites. We carried out total pericystectomy.
No postoperative complications occurred. Discussion: The authors analyze contemporary possibilities of diagnostics and treatment of hydatic liver cysts.
Current equipment at the field hospital enables to diagnose and operate on patients with liver echinococcus involvement, if an experienced liver surgeon is present. Conclusion: The authors present an Afghan patient with 2 echinococcus liver cysts in the case report.
Total pericystectomy was performed. The diagnosis and treatment of those patients are presented in context of contemporary possibilities of the field hospital ROLE 2 in Kabul.
