Abstract
It is important to have an internationally recognized,precise nomenclature for different types of neck dissection both for clinical and research purposes. However, as neck dissection techniques have evolved,previously described nomenclature of neck dissections have become confusing and less used globally.
This lack of international acceptance of a uniform classification, and the increasing use of more limited lymphadenectomy procedures, prompted this reevaluation of neck dissection classifications, and suggestion of a new system of terminology.
