Abstract

Fast and frequent travel has become a mass phenomenon of today and means the movement of huge numbers of people between countries and continents. According to WHO estimates, hundreds of millions of people travel every year for professional, social, humanitarian or tourist reasons.

They travel longer distances, their stays are getting longer and this trend is still continuing. More and more young people are leaving the Czech Republic for long-term stays and in a "backpacker style".

On the contrary, more and more elderly and health-stigmatized people are increasing among tourists. The movement of people from one ecological formation to another locality, where different microbial agents circulate against which they have no immunity, is clearly a risk factor in terms of acquiring infections.

In addition to exposure to infectious agents, travel is associated with other health risks, such as motion sickness, overflight, exacerbation of chronic diseases, injuries. It is related to climate change, changes in human behavior, changes in diet and drinking regime, adherence to hygiene habits, and last but not least, higher physical and mental strain when traveling.
