Abstract
Population ageing is associated with a higher prevalence and incidence of chronic diseases. Already at the present time we are confronted by problematic treatment of heart failure in patients who suffer from chronic nephropathy at the same time.
The issue of the function relations between heart and the kidney is summarised in the concept of cardio-renal syndrome. Ultrafiltration by hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis may be the solution to the fluid -overloaded patients who are not-responders to diuretics.
