The colorectal carcinoma (CRC) incidency in Czech Republic doubled during last three decades, (CRC) represents the most frequent GI tract malignancy nowadays. Early colorectal cancer belongs to well curable diseases, but both the increasing incidency of the disease and diagnosis at advanced stage threaten the population by significant morbidity and mortality.
Appropriate laic and medical publicity play an important role by prevention and early detection of CRC. The review provides for contemporary information concerned with etiology, symptoms, diagnosing, classification and prognosis of CRC, including acute complications.
Special attention is given to the main therapeutic modality - surgical treatment.
