Abstract

Knowledge about functional neuroanatomy of limbic system is extremely important for understanding of psychiatric end neurologic disorders. MacLean differentiates 3 main limbic divisions- amygdalar, hippocampal and cingular.

The systems inhibiting amygdalo-cingular emotions reach maturation later - hippocampus at 3 years of age and praefrontal part of brain at 12 years. The characteristic example of limbic disorder is autism, the controversive topic is borderline between limbic epilepsy and psychotic state.
