Application of physical exercises which is focused on development of the functional muscles capabilities and muscles tonning, should follow the knowledge about influence of exercise initial position on locomotor system. One of methods, which can be used to recognise and measure influence of this position on the muscle activity is surface EMG.
When calf raises (toestands) where tested in outward rotation in the hips, the medial head of gastrocnemius mucles was more activated than the lateral head and opposite was found when inward rotation was provided. When toestand exercise with knee bended is executed the soleus muscle is likely to be activated.
Surface EMG, as a noninvasive method, can verify the infuence of the height of the jump from the box on the muscle activity and on leg take off abilities development. By the measurement of suraface EMG activity we are also able to receive information about optimal box height for the jump from to strengthen glutaeus maximus muscle and to veriphy some similar traditional procedure of strenght exercise.
