Abstract
LPVOs (orphan drugs) have a specific European legislative and regulatory framework, different from medicines for common diseases. The aim of introducing single European legislation in 2000 Regulation (EC) No 141/2000 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 December 1999 on orphan medicinal products sought to provide as effective treatment for orphan patients as is available to patients with common diseases.
