The goal of current research into the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus is to find a treatment that will lead to a safe and significant improvement in compensation and subsequent progress in diabetes. Promising new drugs include the dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4) inhibitory enzyme - gliptins.
