Abstract

Research by Hodges and Richardson (1996) has shown that during arm lifting the transversus abdominis contracts before the deltoid in normal subjects. By contrast a case is reported in which a patient with paresis of the back and deep abdominal muscles had difficulty in lifting her arms when standing freely.
