Abstract

We consider rubber and rubber products to be a normal part of our lives. It is an elastic product obtained by vulcanization of rubber compounds.

It consists of rubber, which ensures elasticity and extensibility thanks to latex. Other components (a variety of chemicals) modify the properties of rubber.

In the last 20 years, there has been an increasing number of reactions to individual components of rubber, including latex proteins. They are more common in some professions (eg healthcare professionals), in patients with spina bifida or in repeatedly operated patients.

Reactions can have both immunological and non-immunological basis. The article deals with rubber allergy, prevalence, types of reactions, examination procedures and treatment. .
