Abstract

Infections of respiratory tract are amongst leading and the most serious causes of morbidity. The seasonal character of this disease is typical under our conditions experiencing higher occurrence during winter months.

The clinical picture in primary care is crucial for decision making if to treat or not. Treatment with antibiotics is indicated on the empiric basis.

But the majority of respiratory infections are caused by viruses, in which case antibiotics are inefficient. In spite of that fact respiratory infections are the most frequent reason for antibiotics prescription in primary care.

Some countries have lowered antibiotics consumption by intentional restriction on prescription, where it is considered to be ineffective regarding ethiology.
