Postprandial hyperglycaemia - awareness among diabetologists

Abstract

Background: chronic hyperglycaemia plays an important role in increasing of morbidity and mortality of patients with diabetes mellitus. Currently is PPG (postprandial hyperglycaemia) consider as an independent risk factor of the manifesta-tion of vascular complications in diabetic subjects.

Main aims were to map physicians awarness of PPG and knowledge about importance of this area. Metodology: a standard method of an individual survey guestionnaireSample: representative 100 diabetologists, by using of a combination of random and quota sample selectionResults: most diabetologists consider of the importance of PPG to be somewhat important or fully convinced of the importance, they certain believe that PPG value are not a replacement for fasting blood glucose levels. 16 % of physicians considered the link between PPG and microvascular complications and 13 % between PPG and macrovascular complicati-ons to be significant.

PPG is most commonly measured in patients treated insulinand most physicians (83 %) favour the measuring of PPG after breakfast.
