Abstract

Administration of the long-acting insulin analogue glargine or detemir will ensure a balanced basal insulin profile with reduced glycemic fluctuation and significantly reduce the frequency of hypoglycaemia (especially at night). Properly indicated treatment with insulin analogues further leads to improved diabetes compensation, often to reduced daily insulin doses and improved quality of life for diabetics.
