Consensus for addressing abnormal findings in cervical cancer screening

Publication |
2009

Abstract

The recommendations mentioned in the article were created on the basis of the agreement of a panel of experts composed of representatives of the Section of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology of the CGPS, Oncogynecological sections of the CGPS and the Society of Czech Pathologists. The consensus was established at a meeting on the 12th of Bauer's day in November 2008, the prepared texts were modified based on comments from individual panel members and controversial moments were consulted with the plenary, which represented leading specialists of the Czech Republic in oncogynecology and cervical pathology, and confirmed by public voting.

Algorithms created for individual findings should serve as guidelines for everyday practice. Their need was caused by changes in Czech gynecology and the absence of recommended procedures both in the primary line and in the level of experts for the implementation of functional screening.

The last comprehensive and conceptual published text devoted to the entire range of cervical pathology was published by a team led by doc. Rob in 2003.

The philosophy of creating algorithms was based on the idea of functional screening. Abnormal screening outcomes (a necessary condition for evaluation according to the Bethesda 2001 system) should then be evaluated by a diagnostic procedure.

Table 1 shows the frequency of individual findings on data from the largest Czech cytology laboratory (audit 2008).
