Abstract

77 years old patient suffering from metastatic pancreatic carcinoma was admitted to the hospital due to worsening of his general conditions and ascites progression. Diagnostic and therapeutic punction of the ascites was carried out.

The number of white blood cells in ascites was borderline for diagnosis of spontanoues bacterial peritonitis. In the ascitic fluid Nocardia spp. was cultivated.

The infection of ascitic fluid by this agent was mentioned in the literature only in peritoneal dialysis patients. Spontaneous infection of ascitic fluid in malignant ascites is very rare.
