Conjugate vaccines in prevention of pneumococcal infections

Abstract

Streptococcus pneumoniae is one of the most important pathogens causing pneumonia, meningitis, otitis or sepsis in children. Currently, there are two types of conjugate vaccines used as a prophylaxis in the Czech Republic - Prevenar and Synflorix.

The article summarizes so far published data on their efficacy and safety.
