Aseptic neuroinfection

Publication at Second Faculty of Medicine |
2009

Abstract

Etiology of aseptic neuroinfection can be viral, bacterial, rarely protozoal. Meningitis usually is not life threatening disease and its treatment is symptomatic in most cases.

Encephalitis can be more severe illness with permanent seguelae or death of patient. Diagnosis is based on serology tests and identification of the pathogen by PCR amplification.

Differential diagnosis of meningeal syndrome is extensive, purulent inflammation, intracranial expansive processes and subarachnoid haemorrhagia must be excluded.
