Publication |
2003

Abstract

A short review of current clinical psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and the status of these therapies in the Czech Republic, is provided. Some differences between psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy concerning therapeutic techniques and therapeutic usage are described.

Conditions of training in psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy (in the Czech Republic) are added. A short history of the Czech psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy is reviewed.

Some results of scientific studies of the effectiveness of psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy are reported. Psychoanalysis is today well used with a spectrum of different patients: mainly chronic neurotic and personality disorders having a strong bad influence of the well-being, and also psychosomatic disorders.

Psychoanalysis is used also with psychotic and abusive patients. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is usually shorter and less intensive, and is therefore applied to less serious neurotic and personality disorders, problems in interpersonal relationship (it is valid also for the group psychoanalytic psychotherapy).

Psychoanalytic long-term psychotherapy is suitable also to chronic or difficult psychiatric patients, somatic and psychosomatic patients and in posttraumatic disorders.
