Abstract

Venous thromboembolism is an undesirable complication of surgery and contributes not only to prolong hospitalization, but also to an increase in morbidity and mortality. The risk of venous thromboembolism in surgical patients is given by predisposing factors that occur in affected individuals (some of them are hereditary, especially FV-Leiden mutation or the prothrombin gene mutation), both factors resulting from the operation itself.
