Trends in the diagnostics and treatment of infective endocarditis - the end of some myths

Publication |
2010

Abstract

Several significant trends could be noted in the scientific literature dealing with infective endocarditis in recent years. IE is a common disease caused by staphylococcal infection, it is necessary to carry out repeated transesophageal echocardiography when we continue to suspect IE, it is also necessary to consider surgical treatment sooner and more frequently.

Only the group of patients with highest risk should be burdened with antibiotic prevention especially patients after passed IE and with prosthetic valves.
