Publication at Second Faculty of Medicine |
2009

Abstract

Lymphedema is a chronic disease that impairs mobility, everyday activities, working and social position, psyche and last, but not least, the quality of life of the patient. Recently, the quality of life of the patient research is evolving.

Methods of data collection and processing are not unified yet. Questionnaires methods are used most frequently.

Various questionnaires were developed in different countries. In our study we used the modified Dermatology Life Quality Index.

The questionnaire focussed on complaints caused by lymphedema is simple, so that can be filled-out in a short time. The evaluation is based on the final score ranging from 0 to 30.

The higher score is the more serious impairment of the quality of life is present. More detailed analysis allows differentiation of impact on particular aspects of life.

In this study 35 patients with primary lymphedema and 35 patients with secondary lymphedema were interviewed. Questionnaires were processed and the score of both interviewed groups was compared mutually and with the score of other dermatological conditions.
