Use of intravascular ultrasound in procedures involving the left main coronary artery

Abstract

Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) is a method which has no alternative in catheter-based procedures and in the management of left main coronary artery stenosis. Proper assessment of the ultrasound finding is critical for selecting the most appropriate therapeutic option ensuring optimal outcomes.

The paper is an overview of current concepts regarding the use of this method in interventional cardiology and this particular indication.
