Certified methodology for cataloguing old cartographic prints and manuscripts according to RDA in MARC21
Abstract
Methodology presents new instructions and procedures for professional description of special documents: maps, plans, atlases, globes and manuscripts according to the new rules with examples. Those are the results of existing research carried out in the framework of cataloguing of the Map Collection of the Faculty of Science of the Charles University in Prague in the years 2011-2014 within the programme TEMAP - Technology for making the map collections in the Czech Republic accessible: methodology and software for the protection and use of the cartographic works of National Cartographic Heritage. 16,000 old maps, atlases, globes and manuscripts were catalogued in this period.
These form test patterns for cataloguing cartographic documents. It is a completely new methodology.
There has not been yet released methodology neither for cataloguing old cartographic documents and manuscripts nor for description according to the original rules AACR2/R.
