The subject ‘Sudeten Germans’ in intra- and extra-universitary areas of learning. Reflections on a new subject of instruction in cultural background-studies within Czech university German studies
Abstrakt
The political instrumentalization of the topics ‘Beneš decrees’ and ‘postwar expulsion’ during the Czech presidency election campaign (January 2013) was a special reason to organize, for the first time, a complete seminar about the subject ‘Sudeten Germans’ as an aspect in Czech university German studies. The following paper outlines the aims of background studies, the conception of parameters concerning the content, methods and didactics as well as reflections about the choice of sources, the use of media and the integration of extra-universitary areas of research included in the course in question which was carried out at Charles University in summer term 2013.
Based on the output established by evaluation furthermore the general perspective of the topic ‘Sudeten Germans’ as a (optional or obligatory) part of university education of Czech students of German will be taken into consideration.
