Complex analysis of the articles published by Liang Qichao (1873-1929) in the first volume of his journal Xinmin congbao in 1902 with special focus on the idea of science and scientific development. LIang's concepts of "new people", "new thought", theory of the Evolution in Chinese interpretation and reception of the work of great figures of early European science (BAcon, Descartes) are discussed.
The sources of new knowledge are intruduced as well, including certain aspects of the role of Japan. The results show LIang Qichao at this period was an enthusiastic student of western science and supporter radical transformation of China following western model, albeit without questioning the validity of Chinese tradition.
