Abstract

This chapter is based on my fieldwork in the city of Mérida, in Mexico, and its surroundings, where I observed the idealized representations of the mestizo beauty of the dancers of the regional dance jarana. The chapter focuses on the new technologies and their role in building social perception that is not limited only to the external beauty but also encompasses the movements and the ideal bearing Jaranero or Jaranera.
