In 2013, the Faculty of Education, Charles University in Prague, was awarded a grant project FRVŠ whose main goal was to build and upgrade current technological facilities for the use of modern informational and communicational technologies in the education of future mathematics and elementary teachers. The new facilities have been used in several courses whose content and way of presenting subject matter were adapted to the new possibilities.
The article focuses on one of these courses, namely, the mathematics education course, and shows on several illustrations the way in which the students are introduced to the potential benefits of the interactive whiteboard for their future teaching at schools. The illustrations concern, among others, the creation and didactic evaluation of presentations for interactive whiteboards and of applets and electronic textbooks.
Examples document how the interactive whiteboard is used not only as a means of teaching but also of learning. Some research is briefly mentioned on the use of interactive whiteboards at elementary and secondary schools.
