The article deals with the official bilateral relations between Czechoslovakia and Austria in the 2nd half of the 1980's years, especially in the critical year 1989. Despite the continuing bipolarity in the international environment was a noticeable increase of multilateral issues such as security, the economy , environmental , civil and human rights , etc. recorded.
The gradual opening up new scope for diplomacy could be considered as a result of Soviet perestroika, the successful Détente-policy and the progress of the CSCE-process. Special interest is paid to the Czechoslovak Austria image before the fall of the Iron Curtain .
