Value of the "Find a Mistake" type of testing excercise

Publication at Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové |
2014

Abstract

If we want to test the language level of our students we have to test all four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Each of the skills requires its specific type of testing (a structured exercise) that best fits the given skill.

Reading, by its nature, uses most commonly the open-ended questions based upon a relatively long text. It checks reading comprehension - which means understanding the text within all its aspects.

The students has to identify appropriate context, meaning, relations between individual paragraphs, the overall message of the text and must unveil the hidden meaning between the lines. Citation: COMOREK, Jan.
