The book contains the "Grammar" and rich, new, extremely interesting archival material, which is related to August Schleicher's Lituanistic activities, his personality traits and life in the context of scientific life of the time. Some published letters are full of new data on the Lithuanian language and folklore, which can be used for the research of language history and dialectology.
Original facsimiles are published. Algirdas Sabaliauskas' article about August Schleicher, full of discoveries and new facts, Ilya Lemeshkin's study, factography on the relations of foreign linguists with Lithuania, collected by Rainer Eckert, are published.
Scientific articles about Schleicher's life and scientific activities are published in the Lithuanian and German languages. The archival material is provided in German, Czech and Lithuanian.
